Hand Trauma

Hand trauma comprises the maximum of our surgical procedures form major replants and revascularisation of the limb/ digit to tendon and nerve reconstructions as a secondary procedure.

Replant- 8yrs old young boy from Wayanad sustained accidental amputation right thumb with a knife

Underwent replantation of right thumb with good post-op function.

REVASC

Preop – 

Young manual worker with severe crush injury left hand and near total amputation ring finger. Underwent revascularisation of ring finer and flexor tendon repair of middle and little finger with digital nerve repair

Postop – 

 

TENDON/ NERVE REPAIRS

PreOp– Zone V crush injury in a manual labourer with multiple flexor tendon, median nerve and ulnar artery injury. Underwent debridement, tendon repair, median nerve and ulnar artery microvascular repair

 

Post-Op– regained full function and nerve recovery

 

Pre-Op- RTA –with radial nerve injury showing wrist drop. Radial nerve repaired and post-op full function regained over a period of time.

 

Post-Op – 

Pre-Op– severe crush injury right hand after stuck in a washing machine, underwent bone fixation from Ortho side followed by radial and ulnar artery and all 3 nerves and tendon repair.

Post-Op – 

NAIL BED REPAIR

Pre-Op– nail bed injury with P2 tuft #.

 

Post- Op– nail bed repair done with 6/0 prolene

OSTEOPLASTIC RECONSTRUCTION

Preop– traumatic amputation left thumb with loss of distal tissue.

 

Underwent osteo-plastic reconstruction with iliac bone graft and groin flap cover.

 

Post-Op: Post flap division and flap settled well.

FREE-FLAPS

Pre-Op – Post RTA a young female presented with infected wound right hand palm and dorsum of foot. She underwent debridement and multiple VAC sessions with a raw area midpalm. Post 3 VAC sessions, she underwent definitive wound cover with medial plantar perforator based flap

Post-Op – cosmetically and functionally relevant flap with minimal donor site morbidity
